“Not long ago, someone had a passing thought. All life is sacred and must be protected.” - Shinichi Izumi, Parasyte (Ep. 01) The Toonami Trending Rundown for October 3-4, 2015. We welcome in Parasyte into the block as every show had managed to trend in the US including #DBZKai during it’s encore presentation as well as #Parasyte during it’s west coast airing. Both DBZ and Parasyte also produced some character trends, with Goku (as he is fully recovered from his injuries and begins his showdown with Frieza), Vegeta (as Frieza kills him after getting intimidated by him and he tells Goku the truth about the fate of Planet Vegeta), and Migi (as he infects himself into Shinichi’s arm). In Sword Art Online news, it has just been announced that a new feature film for the series is currently in production. We don’t have much info on it as of yet, though we do know that it will be a completely new story written by Reki Kawahara instead of just being adapted from the novels. Today marks the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the Evangelion series. With this being the year Evangelion takes place, this show has given us many fond memories and we sure look forward to see what’s next. And speaking of Evangelion, Funimation is planning to release the long awaited 3.33 film in early 2016. In the meantime we are just a month away until the launch of Intruder 2 and things are looking up. Until next week, stay gold as always. Legend: The shows listed are ordered based on their appearance on the schedule. Show trends are listed in bold. The number next to the listed trend represents the highest it trended on the list (not counting the promoted trend), judging only by the images placed in the rundown. For the Twitter tweet counts, the listed number of tweets are also sorely based on the highest number shown based on the images on the rundown.United States Trends:#DBZKai (Also during it’s encore airing) [#1] Goku (From DBZ Kai. “I used to always think, “Why am I alive? Why’d I stick around for this long?” But you know what? After all this time, I think I know why now. I might not have done much but I’m glad I got to live. Cause after everything these last few moments, they’re the best ever. I’m surrounded by all my friends and I got to end my journey in the arms of someone I love. […] I gave this life everything I had. I was alive.” - Yuuki Konno, Sword Art Online II (Ep. 24) The Toonami Trending Rundown for September 26-27, 2015. We send off Sword Art Online’s second season’s run (in addition to Attack on Titan’s season 1 encore run) off with a bang as every show had managed to trend in the US during their respective East Coast runs, in addition to #AkameGaKill and #SwordArtOnline trending US during their respective West Coast runs. In addition, we were also treated to a promo of our newest show, #Parasyte, and that also trended in the US as a result. Sword Art Online II trending retrospective 24 additional weeks of Kirito and Asuna and company kicking ass and beating games, and another season of Sword Art Online is in the books. While debates about it’s mixed acclaim has unfortunately been well documented, something which I talked about during season 1’s finale, some detractors have said that SAO’s renewal would be problematic or even harmful for Toonami’s growth. But as Jason DeMarco would say, television is a democracy and people vote with their eyeballs, and as the ratings and social media buzz would show, those fears were once again largely exaggerated. During it’s Toonami run, #SwordArtOnlineII has successfully trended in some capacity during 7 out of 14 weeks of the Phantom Bullet arc, as well as every week of it’s airing during the Calibur and Mother’s Rosario story arcs. Season 2’s run also produced 5 different character and in-show content trends, Asuna in 2 occassions, Kirito in 2 occassions, including both “Kirito and Asuna”, Sinon, and Death Gun. Of course, some of you might be asking “What’s next for Sword Art Online?” Well, we don’t have any official details on Season 3 as of yet, but going by the light novels, the next and possibly final story arc, Project Alicization, covers volumes Volumes 9-16+ of the novels, with it’s finale still yet to be published. In addition, there is also the Progressive series, which is also currently being written, that reboots the Aincrad arc from the ground up. Whatever happens, love it or hate it, it’s very unlikely Sword Art Online will be going away anytime soon, and we look forward to see what the future holds for this great franchise. And Finally… As the wait for SAO season 3 begins, and the wait for Attack on Titan season 2 continues, tune in next week as Parasyte joins in on the action at 1:00 am Eastern, with Michiko and Hatchin continues with it’s 2nd half at it’s new time at 1:30 am, while an encore presentation of Kill la Kill begins at 3 am. Until then, stay gold as always and keep on fighting like Yuuki had. Legend: The shows listed are ordered based on their appearance on the schedule. Show trends are listed in bold. The number next to the listed trend represents the highest it trended on the list (not counting the promoted trend), judging only by the images placed in the rundown. “Oh, Mine. I’m glad I could be useful. Night Raid. You were always home to me. I loved every one of you from the bottom of you. I had so much fun. [And] Tatsumi…I’m sorry. I won’t be able to hold you…ever again.” - Sheele, Akame ga Kill! (Ep. 06) The Toonami Trending Rundown for September 19-20, 2015. A pretty decent night for Toonami’s social media buzz as on Twitter, Toonami and every show save for #AttackOnTitan had managed to trend in the US, and both #AkameGaKill and #MichikoAndHatchin trended worldwide. In addition, Toonami also trended on Tumblr, and #ShingekiNoKyojin also trended on Google Plus. Today marks the 7th anniversary of Toonami’s original cancellation. Those four years off the air were some pretty tough times for both Toonami and anime as a whole, but with the block’s return, things are looking up, and hopefully we can keep this going for years to come. In addition, in a few hours time as of this writing, this also marks the 16th anniversary of the Naruto series. Thanks for all the memories, and many more to come. Tune in next week as Sword Art Online showcases it’s season finale, among other great moments. You don’t want to miss this. Until then, stay gold. “I don’t care what they say. All I want is to talk to Yuuki one last time. I can’t leave her like this.” - Asuna Yuuki, Sword Art Online II (Ep. 22) The Toonami Trending Rundown for September 12-13, 2015. It’s another good night for the block’s social media buzz as every show managed to trend in the US during their respective East Coast airings, every show save for #DBZKai, #Shippuden, and #AttackOntitan trended during their respective West Coast airings, and both #AkameGaKill and #MichikoAndHatchin both trended worldwide. In addition, #SAO also trended on Google Plus. No character/in show content trends to report, however. Unfortunate enough to miss Toonami and wasn’t able to be able to record it? We’ll starting today, you’re in luck. Every Sunday till Monday at 5pm Eastern, Toonami will be encoring that particular week’s block, with bumpers and all, on the Pre-Flight channel. You don’t need to log in to your cable or satellite provider to check it out, but due to licensing issues, you obviously do need to be in the US to view it. Of course, we do recommend that you watch and live tweet the block as it airs every time you can, as those viewership ratings are what really matters for the block’s sustainability. Tune in next week as SAO showcases the penultimate episode of Season 2, while Michiko and Hatchin kicks off the 2nd half of the series, among other great moments. Until next week, enjoy the football season, and stay gold. Legend: The shows listed are ordered based on their appearance on the schedule. Show trends are listed in bold. The Toonami Trending Rundown for September 5-6, 2015. With it being the Labor Day weekend, and the College Football season underway, naturally it was expected to be a down night for the block’s ratings and social media buzz. As a result, Toonami decided to marathon episodes 4-10 of Michiko and Hatchin, which resulted in #MichikoAndHatchin trending throughout the block during it’s East Coast run and into it’s West Coast run as well, even becoming the top trend at one point. For those that haven’t heard the news from DragonCon, we now know when Parasyte is going to air: October 3rd at 1am Eastern. In addition, Intruder 2 will be a 7 part series with episode 1 airing at November 7th at midnight, with each consecutive episode airing every Saturday during DBZ’s commercial break. The long awaited comic will also be posted on November 7th, and the Mobile App will launch at November 2nd. In the meantime, we’re coming down to the final three episodes of Sword Art Online’s Mother’s Rosario arc, and you definitely don’t want to miss what’s next. Until next week, have a Happy Labor Day and stay gold. Legend: The shows listed are ordered based on their appearance on the schedule. Show trends are listed in bold.
