(This article explores issues that I feel are currently bringing the Toonami Community down.)
Back during the CN Days of Toonami, in my opinion, Toonami taught all of us to follow our dreams, accomplish what we want to accomplish and most importantly achieve those dreams by pursuing them the right way. Through everything Toonami has done to this point, it has managed to change and save many people's lives on top of entertaining people as well. I've heard many people say this over the years since Toonami's been back and, well I'm one of those people. I never had any friends growing up. I was always picked on at school and never really had anyone to talk to at home. However, when I would put on Toonami and see all of the speeches Tom gave and all the promos put together between shows. I always specifically remember the "Broken Promise (Dreams)" promo.
This promo gave me the notion to never give up and never give in. Toonami prevented me from giving into despair like many others. To all of us, Toonami meant the world. So when everyone heard there was a chance of it coming back, I remember everyone rallying together to bring it back.
Since then though, I feel that nowadays the Toonami Community is divided. Simply put, I've seen there's this hatred and animosity among us now. People attacking and belittling others because someone likes a show they don't like or vice versa. Telling each other they need to die or kill themselves so on and so on. The worst part of it is that, its not just the haters that seem to be doing this but some of the fans as well. I hate to say it but I feel its getting to the point where people don't even want to be on twitter anymore and are beginning to leave. A few months back during the SAO civil war, (as it was called) it got really extreme. I had friends who were attacked for no reason and it pissed me off so much that I ended up posting these two tweets.
Then I started getting replies back saying that they were getting attacked as well. @michelleruffvo1 (Voice Actor of Sword Art Online) got in contact with me
and then she started getting involved trying to end all of the nonsense.
Then about two weeks later Toonami came out with the Bullies Speech.
I'm relieved that things have calm down a bit since then, but I still see it going on nonetheless.
My intentions are not to call anyone out, but rather to call out the issues of hate among the fans. There are fansites out there who claim to support Toonami and although I think their intentions are true, they come off as egotistical. I feel that they have let all the success go to their heads and now look down upon the rest of us fans as if they are better and or more important than us to the Toonami cause. If you ask me, they have forgotten the core ideals of Toonami and honestly these days I feel like the phrase Toonami Faithful isn't who we are, but more of a brand name.
What the hell happened to us Toonami fans? I mean seriously, I never imagined things would be like this when Toonami came back. While I was going over @erockstar5s SAO article, I thought he hit it right on the nail when he said, it will be us the fans who will bring Toonami to its demise again.
Now with that being said, it does not matter what shows you like or dislike or which fansite is better or not. I'm certainly not trying to start a war or anything withen the fandom. That's the last thing I or any loyal Toonami fan would want in the the Toonami Community at this point. We already have enough hate going on, but seriously please! All of this infighting and egotistical crap needs to STOP NOW! The reason why is because if this keeps up, its not going to be a show, its not going to be the ratings or even a single person that cause's Toonami's demise again. Its going to be us, the fans who will cause Toonami's demise like I said before. I strongly feel we need to straighten all of this crap out now and get our acts together because at the end of the day, dont we all have the same goal? Support Toonami however way we can and help keep it going for as long as possible?
We may disagree on many things but one sentiment we can agree on is this, we love Toonami and want it to remain on air. Be mindful with what you say before you post and focus instead on the one thing that unites us all. Our love for Toonami.
